I’ve got an alter ego. Her name is Nagasaki. Nagasaki Jenkins Jackson to be exact, and yes Miss Jackson if you’re nasty. She’s a big-boned black woman. Her Judys call her Girl. Her alter ego is a 5’2” white woman channeling Elle Woods, waltzing through life wrapped in ermine personal power. She’s southern as sweet tea—served chilled in Baccarat, to be sure. Shoulders set, back straight, head lifted—there’s no mistaking what she thinks of herself, each step carefully designed. They’re both an offer to accept and an invitation to challenge (her sweetness, that is). Each sway beckons, “Come test the depths of my bearing and poise.”
